Włodzimierz Pawlak

(b. 1957)

Painting, performance, poetry, art theory. Member of Gruppa. In his work, he began with references to Neo-Expression,
eventually arriving at a minimalist reflection on the form of the painting. He creates extensive painting series. Author
of a series of visual journals which are an attempt to find a formula for showing the passage of time. The paintings from
this series combine paint-soaked string, a thick layer of paint and drawings of vertical and horizontal lines. A significant part
of the artist’s output are works related to music and art history. They take up a dialogue with the ideas of such avant-garde
classics as Katarzyna Kobro, Władysław Strzemiński, Kazimierz Malewicz and Le Corbusier.
