MOCAK and the Center for Persecuted Arts in Solingen invite you to the guided tour of the Joachim Ringelnatz's exhibition Poetry and Art on the Brink of Nazism, accompanied by a lecture by Jürgen Kaumkötter, who co-curated the exhibition.
The exhibition in MOCAK is the first contemporary presentation of the oeuvre of Joachim Ringelnatz outside Germany. Jürgen Kaumkötter, a curator from the Center of Persecuted Arts in Solingen will give his lecture against the backdrop of a dozen or so Ringelnatz’s original paintings, drawings, first editions of his books and copies of his works that were lost during the war. Jürgen Kaumkötter is the author of the book Death Does Not Have the Last Word: Art in the Tragic Years 1933–1945, published by MOCAK.
Joachim Ringelnatz (1883–1934) is one of the classics of German poetry. Snippets of his humorous verses that distance themselves from the reality are still popular today as topical aphorisms. Ringelnatz was also a painter; his paintings, however, are little known. The Center for Persecuted Arts in Solingen has shown the first retrospective presentation of Ringelnatz’s paintings.
On 7 March at 6 pm, you are welcome to a lecture and a guided tour. No pre-booking necessary. Participants will be expected 5 minutes earlier next to the MOCAK Reception. The event will take place in English. It is free.
