Tuesdays with the Collection: Lars Laumann
29.01.2019 at 11 am – 7 pm
In November, December 2018 and January 2019, as part of the two-year-long project Tuesdays with the Collection, we present Lars Laumann’s work Shut up Child, This Ain’t Bingo.
The film tells the story of a young Norwegian woman in love with Carlton Turner, a black man sentenced to death. Nobody mentions his crime. This implies that the person is much more important than his actions. For the protagonists of Carlton’s film, he is innocent and no one doubts his value as a human being. This approach gives their lives joy and lightness. The atmosphere of the film is permeated with great trust in the goodness and beauty of people.
Lars Laumann (born 1977)
Video, video installation. In each of his films, he employs a different narrative mechanism. In his idiosyncratic way, Laumann highlights the elements of the story that determine its interpretation. He places some events in a strongly intrusive context, which shapes the image of the story conveyed and the way it is perceived by the viewer.
Tuesdays with the Collection is a two-year-long project: each Tuesday – the day on which the entry to the Museum is free – selected video works from the MOCAK Collection will be shown in the audiovisual room (11 am – 7 pm). Currently, our Collection comprised 161 video works, of which at least half have never been shown during the exhibitions of the Collection.
