To mark the 10th anniversary of the opening of MOCAK, we have launched a series of film screenings entitled Thursdays with Artists from the MOCAK Collection. As part of the project, each Thursday we will be showing interviews with artists whose works are in our Collection. On the day the entry to the MOCAK Collection exhibition is free.
In March, April and on May 5 we present the interview with Shinji Ogawa. He talks about his artistic education and recalls his inspirations and journeys, which often proved for him a source of creative material.
Until mid-March 2022 selected works by Shinji Ogawa can be seen in the Re Gallery, as part of the exhibition Architecture as Symbol, Text and Backdrop.
The projections take place on Thursdays in the audiovisual hall at noon, 2 pm and 5 pm.
Shinji Ogawa >> (1959, Japan)
The visual catalogue of possible historical manipulation: dividing figures, doubling buildings, superimposing one text on another, filling in ruins, creating new cities to resemble the old ones, separating documents into layers, or sketching in the connecting elements between completely separate images. At times the procedure is clearly visible and the assault on ‘history’ can be identified; at other times the image appears plausible and consistent. The effect is amplified by the perfectionism in employing classical painting and drawing techniques.
