In January and February, as part of the project Thursdays with Artists from the MOCAK Collection, we will be presenting an interview with Shahar Marcus, in which, amongst other things, the artist talks about his first experiences with art and explains the philosophy behind his work. In the MOCAK Collection there are three works by Shahar Marcus, which since June 2021 have been on display in the exhibition The Artist Is Present.
The screenings take place at the audiovisual hall throughout the day during the Museum’s opening hours.
Shahar Marcus >> (1971, Israel)
Film, photography, performance. In his performances, he explores the limitations of his own body by subjecting it to experiments that he conducts using transient, often organic materials such as dough, bread and ice. He also takes on board the issue of his national identity and the history of Israel. Another significant area in his work is the world of art. By personifying various figures such as Yves Klein or a curator, he comments ironically on the mechanisms of the art world and pays homage to artists that are important to him.
