Piotr Lutyński Territory

26.06.2013 - 29.09.2013

Piotr Lutyński was born in Tychy on 18 November 1962. From 1983 to 1990, he studied at the  Pedagogy and Art Department of the University of Silesia in Cieszyn. He graduated in graphic art in the studio of Prof.  Eugeniusz Delekta in 1990. He was twice awarded a grant by the Minister of Culture and his works can be found at the National Museum in Krakow, in the national collection Znaki Czasu, in the collections of Galeria Foksal and Galeria Muzalewska and the collections of Andrzej Starmach, Krzysztof Chwedczuk and Maciej Prus.

In his works, Lutyński combines natural elements with abstract painted elements, simple in form and pure in colour. For him, abstract image is the point of departure for action during his openings. The artist breaks the conventional artificiality of a gallery event; he introduces live animals and plays instruments with invited musicians; creating a hospitable ambiance, he provides a buffet. Lutyński also does away with the convention of a work of art created by the artist, during his openings initiating situations that have a life of their own; in them, the artist's works, such as paintings or sculptures, provide a backdrop for artistic actions.
