Politics is always present in the cinema, though sometimes in less than obvious, implicit way. This relationship began right when the cinema was born and since then has always been dynamic and complex. Films illustrate socio-political processes, serve as a reference point for public debate, foster political activity and shape our worldviews. They do that by using various genres and conventions, from political fiction to unyielding satire, and poignant historical drama. Works presented during this year’s summer cinema constitute a comprehensive review of artistic strategies employed by renown modern directors to comment on politics as a cultural phenomenon. Their common message is that even though we may not be aware of it, politics directly affects our daily reality.
