MOCAK Collection in Vilnius
MOCAK Collection in Vilnius
09.06.2016 - 12.06.2016
From 9 until 12 June, at the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre Litexpo in Vilnius, the 7th edition of the International Contemporary Art Fair ArtVilnius’16 will take place. This is one of the most prominent events of this kind in the Baltic states.
This year, Poland is the honorary guest of the International Art Fair ArtVilnius'16. The event is accompanied by a dedicated exhibition programme: in Vilnius, MOCAK will show works of some of the artists from its Collection, including Lukáš Houdek, Karolina Kowalska, Zbigniew Libera and Krzysztof Wodiczko. Again, the MOCAK Collection is making an appearance outside Poland.
The MOCAK Collection currently comprises 4 557 works by 235 artists from 32 countries. It aims to persuade those not professionally connected with art that art is an indispensable tool for understanding the world. We want to fight the fallacy that art should be pleasing and decorative. One of the Museum’s key goals is to encourage friendly relations between art and audiences, and the Collection is a crucial tool in this process. From its very beginning, it has been one of MOCAK’s underlying principles to juxtapose Polish and international art in order to demonstrate that the former is part of the latter and that it shares its prevailing values.
