Lynn Hershman Leeson’s exhibition in Poznań

Welcome to Poznań to the 5th International Festival of Women’s Art No Women No Art. As part of the event it will be possible to see Lynn Hershman Leeson’s exhibition Me as Roberta.

Galeria No Women No Art, MOCAK the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow and the School of Humanities and Journalism in Poznań would like to invite you to the solo exhibition of the American artist, icon of American feminist art of the 70s. The exhibition will showcase photographs from the Roberta Breitmore series from 1974–1978. This is a documentation of the project which involved the artist becoming a 30-year old woman, RobertaBreitmore. For the project, not only did Leeson change her appearance, but she also established a different identity for the character, who by those around her was treated as an authetic person in her own right.

The exhibition aims to demonstrate how this female artist took on a different persona within the context of the-then American reality and social structures.
