Krzysztof Niemczyk exhibition in Rome
From 3 until 28 November 2014 as part of the project In Polonia per saziare l´amore at Fondazione Pastificio Cerere there will be on the exhibition of Krzysztof Niemczyk.
The exhibition is the first-ever in Italy presentation to the general public of Krzysztof Niemczyk – a painter, writer and musician from Krakow, a legend of the Polish avant-garde. Both in his private life and in his actions in public space, the artist often went beyond the traditional boundaries of art. This was in tune with what went on in the artistic community centred around Krzysztofory Gallery in Krakow and Foksal Gallery in Warsaw.
At the exhibition there will be portraits of Niemczyk made by Eustachy Kossakowski, the documentation of the artist’s actions in public space, his short stories and his sole novel The Courtesan and the Little Chicks or the Distorting Mirror of Passionate Action or else A Study of Chaos, which Achille Perilli smuggled out of Poland to Rome in 1969. All the materials presented at the ehxbition come from the archives of Anka Ptaszkowska and Józef Chrobak.
On Monday 3 November, Anka Ptaszkowska – an art critic, co-founder of Foksal Gallery and a close friend of Krzysztof Niemczyk – reminisced about him and recounted of the search for materials about the artist. The inauguration of the exhibition was also accompanied by a projection of films by Paulina Ołowska (b. 1976), one of the leading lights of the Polish contemporary art scene, who in her work draws on avant-garde and modernism.
Krzysztof Niemczyk exhibition is part of a larger project, In Polonia per saziare l´amore, which has incorporated the presentations of Edward Krasiński (25.9–21.10.2014) and Tadeusz Rolke (22–30.10.2014) at the Polish Institute in Rome and at Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, curated by Ilaria Gianni and Luca Lo Pinto. In turn, the exhibition in Rome are part of the project In Poland, Where’sThat? Initiated by the Polish Institute in Rome. The project aims to promote awareness of Polish contemporary art scene abroad with the help of outstanding Italian curators.
