Mona Hatoum

(b. 1952)

Installation, video. The artist hails from a family of Palestinian Christians, exiled from Israel in 1948. The civil war that erupted
in Lebanon in 1975 made it impossible for her to return to her family home in Beirut. In the art of Mona Hatoum, the dramatic
experiences of her family have become a universal commentary on armed conflict and the political situation in the Middle East. The artist creates series of works related to the human body, in which she uses both documentation of physiological processes and biological material, such as hair or nails.
