On Wednesday, 10th June at 5.30 pm come to a curator's tour of the exhibition Poland – Israel – Germany: The Experience of Auschwitz.
The exhibition Poland – Israel – Germany: The Experience of Auschwitz at MOCAK highlights the significant presence of the theme of Auschwitz in the historical, social and cultural discourse. It demonstrates how contemporary artists from Poland, Israel and Germany interpret events from the past. This is not about presenting art broadly thematically related to the Holocaust, rather – about works that deal with the ‘anus mundi’– Auschwitz as a place of genocide, the most tragic man-made symbol there is.
The exhibition is presented in the MOCAK Collection exhibition space, in the Alfa Gallery and in the Library. The main part of the exhibition will be displayed in the MOCAK Collection exhibition space; it will show the present approach to Auschwitz – through the works of 17 contemporary artists from Poland, Israel and Germany. In the Alfa Gallery we present the historical approach to Auschwitz. For the first time in Poland, we show a few dozen works by Yehuda Bacon, who had been taught drawing in the concentration camp by the artist Peter Kien. At the MOCAK Library, we present the original drawings from the first French edition of Michel Kichka’s comic Duxième génération, ce que je n’ai pas dit à mon père.
A guided tour with Delfina Jałowik and Jürgen Kaumkötter, the exhibition curators, will be held in Polish and English. Entry included in the ticket.
