Conservation through Devastation

Conservation through Devastation

Re-installation of, and the preparation of a substitute base for, the painting installation by Edward Dwurnik Krakow Folk Show us What you’ve Got (2005), created by the artist in the now-defunct Potocka Gallery. The artist made a painting on a prepared canvas attached to the wall in one of the Gallery’s spaces. The painting, which imitated a wall painting, was taken off the wall and rolled up. After being given to the MOCAK Collection, the painting was provided with a permanent, portable base, the elements of which, once put together, emulate the original display site. The cutting up of the painting in order to make it compatible with the actual detail of the base was carried out with the artist’s consent in order to facilitate the attachment of  the painting and to prevent damage to the wet parts of the canvas caused by its own weight.
