On 12th September at 2 pm come to the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw (ul. Mordechaja Anielewicza 6) to a discussion dedicated to the ways of presenting the Holocaust in contemporary art.
Anda Rottenberg – art historian
Jürgen Kaumkötter, Delfina Jałowik – curators of the exhibition Poland – Israel – Germany: The Experience of Auschwitz
Chairperson: Maria Anna Potocka
The discussion has been inspired by the exhibition Poland – Israel – Germany: The Experience of Auschwitz, which will be documented at the meeting. To date, two books accompanying the exhibition have come out. The first one is the Polish translation of And Death Shall Have No Dominion by Jürgen Kaumkötter. It constitutes a wide overview of works created by the artists who were imprisoned in ghettos and concentration camps. The other one is a trilingual catalogue in Polish, English and German, which includes Delfina Jałowik's essay on how the question of Auschwitz is interpreted by contemporary artists, as well as descriptions and reproductions of the works featured in the MOCAK exhibition. The third book is due to appear in autumn. It will contain texts by professionals from various fields, including curators, art historians and critics, as well as artists, writers and philosophers who will share their opinions on how the Holocaust should be described and interpreted. Is there a single acceptable convention of talking about the Holocaust? How can we construct the memory of the Holocaust today?
The discussion will be held in Polish. Free admission.
