On 3 October at 6 pm, dr Michael Groß, the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Prof. Jacek Majchrowski, the Mayor of Krakow, Burkhard Jung, the Mayor of Leipzig and dr Maria Anna Potocka, the director of MOCAK the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow invite the residents of Krakow to a celebration of the Day of German Unity.
The Day of German Unity commemorates the anniversary of German reunification on 3 October 1990. For the occasion, we have prepared for our visitors a joint artistic programme, which will include the Joachim Ringelnatz exhibition Poetry and Art on the Brink of Nazism and the performance Transfigure by the dancers from Leipzig Ballet. MOCAK director Dr Maria Anna Potocka and Consul General dr Michael Groß will read selected poems by Joachim Ringelnatz.
The Joachim Ringelnatz exhibition is one of the first contemporary interpretations outside Germany of one of the classical German poets. Besides a comprehensive literary overview, MOCAK will also present paintings by Ringelnatz. On display in Alfa Gallery there will be some dozen of his original paintings and drawings as well as photocopies of his works that were lost during the war.
The City of Leipzig will present Leipzig Ballet, which under the direction of the choreographer Mario Schröder has been performing throughout the city, changing the perception of the art of dance. The performance Transfigure will take place in MOCAK’s exhibition space.
Free admission. Buffet will be provided for the visitors.
