Zbigniew Libera

(b. 1959)                                                                                                                                                  Object, installation, video, photography. Considered a precursor of critical art. In his works he lays bare the mechanisms and stereotypes that govern mass culture. He analyzes the problem of imposing obligatory behaviour and gender roles on society. His work relates to the body, and methods of disciplining it and forcing it into a universally functioning aesthetic model. He is also interested in the iconography of contemporary culture, which shapes the visual memory of the viewer and influences his perception of history.
