Matter painting. This movement, rather than paint, uses soil, sand and leather, keeping their original hues. With such materials, it is impossible to create representative paintings; the resulting compositions are thus rough, abstract and monochromatic. The artist has limited scope for introducing meaning, which he can do only by implying a configuration of shapes confronted with the title.
