1960
Witold Urbanowicz has composed a curtain, above which there can be seen a shoddily executed crack, revealing the background. The year was 1960 – the end of the Polish Thaw and the beginning of the Gomułka government. This was curtains for the brief opening for freedom of speech and independent thought. The painting does not bring to mind politics. However, the juxtaposition of the date, title and the subtle symbolism of form makes this interpretation legitimate.
