Trevor Gould
(b. 1951)
Sculpture, installation, painting. The artist presents quite a contrary strategy – inspired by exotic fauna and flora, he creates a study of society and the domination of one culture over another (colonialism). Animals, usually apes, adopt clearly humanoid features, demonstrating the mechanism of how identity is shaped. The artist’s works, installed in unconventional places such as a zoo, botanical garden or park, question the role of the museum in the main cultural space.
