The current project Thursdays with the Collection, in which every Thursday selected video works from the MOCAK Collection are shown in the audiovisual hall, continues as online showcase as part of the #MOCAKonline action.
Through April and May as part of the most recent edition of the project Thursdays with the Collection, we present documentation of Krzysztof Wodiczko’s public projection that took place on the Main Square in Krakow in 1996.
The artist precedes all his similar projects with social research, which aims to reveal the most traumatic aspects of life in a given city. In the Krakow project, Wodiczko gave voice to people in the predicament of coping with addictions, domestic violence and intolerance. The town hall tower became their rostrum. The audience was told about problems they usually try to evade. Through combining gestures with symbolic props, the stories of flesh-and-blood people take on a universal character. The artist’s intention is to awaken social sensitivity and to free the victims from trauma.
Viewings will be available every Thursday throughout April and May between 8 pm and 8.50 pm as a live stream on the Museum’s YouTube channel. The film lasts approx. twelve minutes (it will be replayed four times).
