Thursdays with the Collection. Julius von Bismarck

05.11.2020 at 11 am – 7 pm

Published at:01.10.2020

In October and November, as part of the next edition of the project Thursdays with the Collection, we present the work of Julius von Bismarck Landscape Painting (Forest).

The artist conducted a social experiment. He hired local people to paint a fragment of the forest white and then ordered the participants to restore the original colours to nature based on their own memory. The whole action was recorded on film. From a distance the landscape looks natural, but the shots of details reveal a layer of paint covering stones, trees and grass. In his works Julius von Bismarck examines the credibility of our remembered image of the world around us that we see every day.

This edition of Thursdays with the Collection accompanies the exhibition of students from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, entitled Anthropocene, which will run in the RE from 29 October 2020.

Julius von Bismarck (1983, Germany)

I Installation, object, video, performance, photography. A multimedia artist, he focuses on the issues of perception and experience, exploring our physical and social limitations. In his works he combines interest in new technologies and science. His latest works turn to the natural environment. Julius von Bismarck uses nature as a backdrop for his happening or he intervenes in it directly.
