Andrzej Szewczyk
(1950-2001)
Painting has been substituted with notation. The artist has employed lead, the shells of pistachio nuts and clippings from crayons to create multiplications of signs of his own. In his works they are formed into lines, reminiscent of text. The secret of the source message, hidden in the notation, is known to no-one but the artist. Deliberate formal acts such as introducing dribbles of paint or wax and disturbances of the rhythm introduce intentional disquiet.
