Beata Stankiewicz Ten Jews Who Made Poland Famous
The publication, edited by Martyna Sobczyk, presents profiles of ten outstanding artists and intellectuals. As well as reproductions of works by Beata Stankiewicz, it contains extensive biographies of the portrayed figures and excerpts from their writings. The book also includes an interview with the artist, which familiarises the reader with the concept behind the series.
Michel Kichka Falafel with Hot, Spicy Sauce
Falafel with Hot, Spicy Sauce is Michel Kichka’s latest graphic novel – following the Second Generation – published by MOCAK. The author is a well-known Jewish artist, originally from Belgium. In this book, he tells the story of his Aliyah, or settling in Israel, the land of his ancestors.
People know little about my country or underestimate it; it often gets bad press, and appears on plasma screens only when it comes to war or occupation. I live in Israel – I know it from the inside out, and its ordinary life – so it was important for me to sketch a less artificial and fairer picture of the country so full of contradictions, in which many questions keep awaiting answers. A more complex and emotional picture, one more diverse and human. I look critically but also with love at this land on which I first set foot in July 1969, the year that Neil Armstrong set foot on the Moon. Everyone has their own lodestar. My star is Jewish, secular, Zionist, pacifistic, and open to the world. (Michel Kichka, Preface to the Polish edition)
