Joanna Rajkowska
(b. 1968)
Installation, art in public space, video. She is interested in the individual’s embroilment in history and in the prevalent mechanisms of exclusion. In her works she focuses on sensuality, illness and bodily decay. She is well-known for her radical works, in which she has no compunction about raising matters subject to social taboo, such as explicit eroticism, the existence of sexual and denominational minorities and the difficult theme of the Polish-Jewish historical relationship. In her actions in public space she recalls memories of specific locations, transforming zones of conflict into venues for the encounter of different communities (Oxygenator, Greetings from Aleje Jerozolimskie).
