Munitions (MDZ high explosive shell, M56 High explosive incendiary shell, NATO cartridge, RGN hand grenade)
A series of sculptures made from painkillers. The artist ironically translates the name of the analgesic into the shape of a killing weapon, thus creating a weapon for killing pain. This word‑cum‑image play also conveys a deeper message. Linking medicine and war, the artist exposes the connections between these seemingly radically opposed fields of human activity. The military have supported numerous medical – particularly bacteriological – experiments and employed the findings in warfare.
