Sofie Muller
(b. 1974)
Sculpture, drawing, painting, video. As she says herself, her works are psychological portraits of people she meets. Their appearance also reflects, however, the condition of the contemporary individual, often troubled by loneliness and depression. Inspired by Hippocrates’ famous maxim that ‘What cannot be cured with medicaments is cured by the knife, what the knife cannot cure is cured with the searing iron, and whatever this cannot cure must be considered incurable’, the artist uses fire and its by‑products such as soot and ashes.
