MOCAK: A Reading-Friendly Place

MOCAK: A Reading-Friendly Place

Published at:29.01.2014

On Sunday 26th January MOCAK was awarded with the certificate of a Reading-Friendly Place.

A survey to identify Reading-Friendly Places in Malopolska was a part of the 4th edition of the Free Reading Zone campaign organised by the ZNACZY SIĘ New Art Foundation. The Free Reading Zone includes places where reading is promoted in an original way and book is viewed as a work of art.

The organisers supported their verdict with the following opinion of MOCAK: “The uniqueness of this place follows not only from the beautiful architectural form designed by Italian architect Claudio Nardi or from the art collection it houses, but also from the activities that accompany the exhibitions. From a voluminous and unique library housing Professor Mieczysław Porębski's book collection, through a wide range of books and magazines offered by the museum bookshop, to the café. MOCAK consistently organises a series of events which show a different side of book and its life. First and foremost, the authors of educational programmes prove that a well-designed book is not used exclusively for reading; it is also a work of art in its own right.”

Handing in the certificates coincided with another edition of The Second Life of a Book book swap campaign, which took place in The Tourist Service Centre in ul. Powiśle 11.
