One of the fundamental challenges facing today’s cities is how to stimulate their development. How to define and explore fully the development potential of a city? How to pinpoint worthwhile niche development locations? Can culture be an effective factor in the development of the economy of a city? Are Polish cities capable of emulating the success of the Basque capital, using their own cultural potential?

The lecture will present the role of culture as a determining factor in social and economic development of a contemporary city, based on examples from Poland and abroad.
