Rafał Borcz
(br. 1973) Painting, drawing, sculpture. Graduated from the studio of Leszek Misiak in the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (1999); PhD (2008); tenure (2016). Inspired by a broadly understood fauna and flora, he paints landscapes and sculpts wild animals. For the artist, nature is a contemplative space, in which one can face one’s primaeval fears – of being alone and of transience, as well as become aware of one’s own fragility against the absolute. His paintings are a record of personal, meditative immersion in nature and an attempt to conquer the terrors symbolised by the recurrent figures of animals – wolves, snakes and owls.
