Me and My Mother

Psychoanalytic Aggression. The intellectual atmosphere is permeated at present by references to psychoanalysis. The schematic nature of analytical assumptions may provoke resistance. Perhaps it’s not the son in relation to the father, but the mother in relation to the son. The series of films by Ragnar Kjartansson depicts a mother spitting on her son. The action is played for the camera and no one pretends that we are dealing with a spontaneous situation. In addition, the mother is an actor. However, „authentic” reflexes come out in this arranged scene. Amusement appears several times, and on occasion suppressed irritation peeks out from behind the spitting. The intention of artificiality notwithstanding, the impossibility of taming feelings is revealed.
