The Garden of forgotten fruit for Tonino Guerra (L’Orto dei frutti dimenticati per Tonino Guerra)
Artist:
Krzysztof M. Bednarski
Technique:
installation
Date:
1998
The work is part of a larger, modular installation of 360 elements. Its shape, and as a result the number of the modules, depend on the context and the exhibition space. The artist collected the material used in this installation – moulded plastic fruit packaging – in Campo di Fiori, a square in the centre of Rome, where since the 19th century there has been a fruit and flower market. The title of the work refers to the works of art collected by the poet, writer and scriptwriter Tonino Guerra in a garden of Pennabilli near Rimini. The work ennobles memory and preserves an ephemeral fragment of the past – the packaging of fruit that no longer exists.
