Anthropocene. Student Exhibition – Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow

29.10.2020 - 14.03.2021

At the exhibition in Re Gallery we present the works of students the sculpture studio and interdisciplinary studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (ASP). These objects, photographs, videos and installations have been inspired by the concept of Anthropocene – the central theme of this year’s Open Eyes Economy Summit. In 2000, the Dutch Nobel laureate in chemistry and meteorology Paul Crutzen coined the term ‘Anthropocene’ for the current geological era – a world whose ecosystem has been, most likely irreversibly, changed by mankind. At the same time, however, humans are beginning to realise the worrying effects of their activity. We no longer treat nature as a self-repairing mechanism. Now we know that it requires our support and care.

The works presented at the exhibition express a sense of unease and insecurity at the prospect of the predicted climatic catastrophe. Nature can no longer take the human impact.
