On Friday 28 September at 6 pm at MOCAK a preview will be shown of the film Marina Abramović. The Artist Is Present. Entry free. All welcome!

Marina Abramović, the protagonist of Marina Abramović. The Artist Is Present, the American documentary by Matthew Akers, which received the public award at the 2012 Berlinale, is an icon of performance and body art, who for forty years has been revolutionising contemporary art. This Serbian artist who now lives in the USA subjects her body to extreme tests. The film shows her life and art through the prism of one of her most spectacular artistic actions; an action which took place at the Museum of of Modern Art in New York during the artist’s retrospective exhibition. For three months the artist would sit, motionless, on a chair in the gallery’s hall and visitors would sit next to her. As a result of this wordless therapeutic activity, spontaneous relationships developed between the artist and the viewers; these also have an impact on those watching the film recording of this singular artistic event.

The viewing has been organised in conjunction with the New Horizons Association.
