Women's History, My History
On the 23rd July 2011 a workshop entitled Women’s History, My History took place at MOCAK. Grandmothers, mothers and daughters participated in activities led by the artist Małgorzata Markiewicz.
The starting point for various workshop activities was an analysis of history from various points of perspective. First of all, the participants were taken on a tailor-made guided tour of the Museum. Next, drinking tea or coffee, they chatted to the artist Małgorzata Markiewicz about her personal experiences and about what her inspirations have been. Then, equipped with the ‘glasses of contemporary art’ to aid their vision, the participants started off on a journey into their own childhhod, in the process comparing the relevant elements of their own history and art history.
Finally – on gigantic skirts – the participants recorded their experiences, dreams, reflections and hopes, in this way creating visual autobiographies.
The workshop had been prepared by the artist Małgorzata Markiewicz, art historian Katarzyna Wąs and Elżbieta Sala, the author of the idea behind the workshop.
The workshop entitled Women’s History, My History is part of the educational series Her/My/His/story, organised by MOCAK in conjunction with the Consulate of the United States.
