The Library Opening!

Published at:31.03.2012

All those interested are welcome to use the book collection in the MOCAK Library.

Artistic activity may frequently appear incomprehensible when not placed in the context of contemporary humanist thought. For this reason, the Library aims to provide the relevant framework for the art presented at MOCAK.

The focus of the MOCAK Library is to compile collections primarily within the fields of contemporary art and the fine arts. Those who are interested in contemporary art will find there exhibition catalogues, monographs on artists, albums and the Museum’s own publications.

In the Library Reading Room you can use computer workstations and online catalogues. We also offer free WiFi access. The books can be used on the spot.

The programme for the opening (Saturday 31 March)

An Artistic-Educational Project Return of the Book

11 am – 2 pm

Opening of the MOCAK Library in conjunction with an artistic educational project

Saturday 31 March 2012, 11 am

The participants will be familiarised with various artistic books made by contemporary artists. Next, they will themselves have a go at creatively transforming books perceived as unattractive and unwanted. One of Krakow’s second-hand bookshops is taking part in the project. It has made available to the Museum a few dozen unwanted and untrendy books. Old, forgotten books will become the focus of attention of contemporary artists and the participants of the workshop, who – via artistic intervention – will be building their own individual relationship with the object.
During the session questions will be examined about the life-cycle of a book, the role of a book and the nature of its relationship with the people who take care of it. The books, turned into works of value, will be returned to the second-hand bookshop, where they will go on sale at the same price as previously.

Exhibition of the books created during the workshop

It will be possible to view the artistic books created by the participants of the project until Friday 6 April in the Library Reading Room.

The project ‘Salt’ and the second-hand bookshop ‘Skrypt’ are project partners
