Janusz Tarabuła
(b. 1931)
Matter painting. The works of Janusz Tarabuła are notable for their dark, subdued hues, thickly laid off paint and the use of non-painterly materials such as wood, sand or pieces of textile, resulting in a rich and diverse texture. The artist leads out the expressive action from the centre of the composition, creating a not-quite-perfect symmetry. Thematically, the paintings deal with the transcendental; in a sense, they are objects for meditation. Albeit made less abstract by virtue of its title, each work retains its dark and dramatic expression.
