The library, established thanks to a collection of over five thousand volumes donated by Professor Mieczysław Porębski, is one of the museum’s most distinctive features. The interior design is modelled on the Professor’s study, and the books, exhibition catalogues and travel mementoes gathered here bear witness to his research interests and his work as a historian and art theorist. The library serves as a venue for educational activities, research and reflection on modern and contemporary art.

It is in this context that a painting from the SAO Art collection by Robert De Niro Sr is on display. He was an artist who belonged to the generation that helped shape New York’s post-war art scene. Trained by Hans Hofmann, amongst others, De Niro developed his own painterly language, combining the experiences of Abstract Expressionism with an interest in the human figure.

Visitors will be able to view the painting, on display at the Mieczysław Porębski Library at MOCAK until 31 October 2026.

Library opening hours: Tue – Fri 9 am – 4 pm
