On Friday 15 July at 8 pm we would like to invite you to the MOCAK Library for the finale of the performance by Timothy Maxymenko. Us 8 is a 24-hour action taking place simultanously in the spaces of 4 institutions: the Regional Public Library in Krakow, the Opcja Gallery at the Faculty of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, at the Library of MOCAK the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow and in the Bookshop/Exhibition in Krakow.
In each of these places, two people of different nationalities that are not familiar with each other’s language will spend 24 hours isolated from the rest of the world. The performance is an experiment in finding out how these pairs of people will communicate by arriving at a language of their own, a system of signs making communication possible. They will write down on the walls, on the ceiling or on the floor the words the meaning of which they will have established through this process of communication. In their white cube, cut off from the world, a slow-motion dialogue will develop, based on gestures, drawings, diagrams, graphs and all sorts of scribbles.
After the 24 hours, the public will be able to see the space where the performance had taken place and look at the record of the evolution of this unique microlanguage.
The finale of the event will take place on 15 July:
— in Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna in Krakow (ul. Rajska 1) at 6 pm;
— in the Opcja Gallery at the Faculty of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (ul. Piłsudskiego 38) at 7 pm;
— in the Library of MOCAK the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow (ul. Lipowa 4) at 8 pm;
— in the Bookshop/Exhibition (ul. Józefińska 9) at 9 pm.
