Museum lessons
Museum lessons
We invite schools, kindergartens and other educational institutions to take advantage of the offer of museum lessons at MOCAK. We offer classes on various topics, their course is adapted to the age of the participants. In addition to museum lessons from the permanent offer, we offer classes accompanying temporary exhibitions. During the meetings, young art recipients can not only see exhibitions and gain new knowledge, but also use it creatively during the workshop part. The classes develop independent thinking in children and teenagers and stimulate creativity. Active participation makes acquiring knowledge fun for them and they are happy to visit the Museum again.
MUSEUM LESSONS
- A shared table - a museum lesson at the exhibition Food in Art
During the classes, we will visit together a large temporary exhibition Food in Art, observing how contemporary artists take up this topic. Participants will see works made of food products or inspired by the aesthetics of food, as well as works that problematize the topic of food in the context of food shortage or excess. In the workshop part, inspired by the observed patterns, colors and textures of various materials, we will prepare our own dishes - works of art.
The lesson is an opportunity to get to know contemporary art by experiencing a wide range of techniques and means of artistic expression, such as object, installation, sculpture, bas-relief, painting, photography, combined and original techniques around a topic close to everyone, which is food.
A lesson in several variants, adapted to the age and needs of the group.
- First Steps at MOCAK
(Lesson also conducted in English and Ukrainian)
During the classes, children will visit the MOCAK building and learn about the specifics of the Museum's activities. They will see selected works from the exhibition and take part in interactive art workshops. The aim of the classes is to familiarize the youngest art recipients with the space of the Museum and to arouse interest in selected aspects of contemporary art.
- Emotional Self-Portrait
(Lesson also conducted in English and Ukrainian)
The main theme of the classes will be the issue of portraiture. Using works from the MOCAK Collection as an example, participants will learn about different ways of portraying. In the workshop part, they will create self-portraits presenting their features, emotions and thoughts. The lesson aims to expand the definition of portrait and self-portrait to include metaphorical representations referring to the author's inner experiences.
- Little Collectors
(Lesson also conducted in English and Ukrainian)
A creative, active tour of the Museum combined with a search for the answer to the question: "What is a collection of contemporary art?". During the classes, children will perform tasks related to objects from the MOCAK Collection. Participants will talk about their private collections. The workshops aim to introduce the idea of collecting and presenting exhibits in the museum space.
- A surprising combination
(Lesson also conducted in English and Ukrainian)
Contemporary art is an experimental space in which artists freely, sometimes in a surprising way, combine means of expression and meaning. Warmth - cold, line - stain, image - sculpture. Can the combination of these elements constitute a new quality? Participants of the classes will view works from the MOCAK Collection. In the workshop part, using various materials and techniques, they will create their own artistic works. Thanks to the classes, young recipients of contemporary art will learn to notice the complexity of forms of artistic expression.
- Portrait of a Friend
Who is a master and can anyone be one? Participants will be able to learn about the outstanding art historian, writer and critic Mieczysław Porębski, as well as the history of his friendship with artists. They will also be invited to discover the Professor's library space arranged in the Museum - an exhibition full of masterpieces. The lesson is an active tour of the MOCAK Collection exhibition located in the Mieczysław Porębski Library.

- In the labyrinth of words
(Lesson also conducted in English and Ukrainian)
During the classes, participants will see the MOCAK Collection and, based on selected works, will examine the relationship between a word and its graphic symbol. In the second part of the meeting, children will make their own works related to the artistic representation of a word, syllable, letter. The workshops aim to learn about the history of writing in the context of art.
- There are no wrong answers
(Lesson also conducted in English and Ukrainian)
What is contemporary art? Does everyone have to understand "what the artist meant"? Why are there various strange objects in a museum of contemporary art? To these and many other questions, participants, with the support of an educator, will look for (ambiguous?) answers in the exhibition space. The museum lesson is based on the MOCAK Collection.
MUSEUM LESSONS
- The art of interpretation
(Lesson also conducted in English and Ukrainian)
One of the distinctive features of human creativity is its ambiguity. Receiving the same stimuli, art recipients build different meanings and experience different emotions. The lesson will familiarize participants with the principles of describing and formally analyzing works of art, especially contemporary art. During the classes, young people will see the MOCAK Collection. The classes are aimed at expanding the practical ability to analyze a contemporary work of art and the ways of its reception and interpretation.
