(b. 1970)
Video, installation, object, photography, drawing, painting. Mounir Fatmi grew up in a traditional Muslim family. He operates at the crossroads of two cultures – Arab and European, drawing from both and confronting them with each other. He uses everyday objects, such as photocopiers, books and safety helmets, as well as religious paraphernalia, which he reinterprets. He is particularly interested in the relationship between law, religion, and economics. He examines the causes of current crises, conflicts and social problems.
