Meet Zofia Posmysz

On Thursday 23 March at 6 pm, MOCAK and Wydawnictwo Znak would like to invite you to meet the writer and former Auschwitz prisoner Zofia Posmysz. In the session will take part Maria Anna Potocka and Michał Wójcik.
The event accompanies the launch of the book Królestwo za mgłą (Kingdom Obscured by Mist), an in-depth interview with the writer conducted by Michał Wójcik, and the new edition of her novel Wakacje nad Adriatykiem (Holiday on the Adriatic).
Zofia Posmysz – born in 1923 in Krakow. During the war she was a prisoner in Auschwitz, Ravensbrück and Neustadt-Glewe concentration camps. A graduate of Polish at the University of Warsaw, during 1952–75 she worked at the Polish Radio, including creating the script for the soap opera W Jezioranach. Her writings provide an innovative approach to the theme of concentration camps. Her best-known work is The Passenger (originally a radio play, later a novel), on which both the film of the same title by Andrzej Munk and Witold Lesiewicz and the world-famous opera with music by Mieczysław Weinberg were based. Zofia Posmysz was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Award of the Radio and Television Committee for her achievements in creating radio plays, as well as the Golden Microphone and the award Great Honorary Splendour for lifetime achievement for her radio work. Anhonorary resident of the town of Auschwitz, Zofia Posmysz lives in Warsaw.
