Marta Deskur, Manju Pavadai: If You Shoot One of Them

The exhibition If You Shoot One of Them was the corollary of the year-long project by Marta Deskur. It culminated in a documentary film spiced up with a narrative, its chief protagonist a Tamil woman Manju Pavadai, whom the artist met during her trip to India. Marta and Manju got to know each other in the library in Auroville – a town that had been created as an urban utopia aiming to combine the modernist aspirations of the Western world with the spiritual aspect of the complex culture of the Indian Subcontinent. When they met again, Manju asked Marta to take her to Poland. Apart from the documentation of the exhibition, the catalogue contains a critical text by Ewa Majewska and an essay by Ewa Opałka, responsible for the concept behind the exhibition.
