Marek Chlanda. Transit

The catalogue which accompanies Marek Chlanda’s exhibition Transit is an exceptional, two-part publication. It consists of a booklet with the introductory text, the description of individual sequences of the Transit series together with the photographic documentation aand a conversation with the artist conducted by the exhibition curator, Katarzyna Wąs. In the interview, Marek Chlanda reveals to the readers the details of the process of creating the exhibition and the ‘truths’ hidden therein. The second part is a CD with a detailed presentation of the entire Transit. Marek Chlanda’s exhibition comprises more than a hundred works: a series of paintings (created 2009–2010), two earlier objects from the 70s and 80s and sculpture. Realistic works are interspersed with delirious visions and completely abstract compositions, introducing the viewer into the space of the artist’s reminiscences about the past.

Transit ‘means being in-between, a state of being suspended, an air-lock, a transitive verb. In this particular case, this is a study of ephemerality, or perhaps of fleeting time, conducted in slow motion,’ – this is how Marek Chlanda commented on his project.
