On Saturday 1 April 2023, 12 noon – 1.30 pm join us for a guided tour of the exhibition led by the Czech artist Lukáš Houdek, whose photographs feature in the display.
The exhibition by Lukáš Houdek, an artist in the MOCAK Collection, explores the theme of the Hijras community in India. The artist first encountered the subject during his stay in India in 2008. Four years later, after studying the available literature, he decided to look directly into the community and experience its reality. His interest resulted in two art projects, which Houdek has continued since 2012. He has produced two photographic series documenting the daily life of the hijras. These works are now presented in the Beta Gallery.
Lukáš Houdek (1984) – photography, object. His art remains inextricably linked to social activism. He began with photographic series documenting the lives of Roma living in different parts of Europe. He created a series of works on the post-war conflicts between the Czech and German populations and the post-war transformations in the border areas. He seeks to identify pragmatic solutions to the most relevant problems of a given community.
The event will be held in English. If you are interested in Polish interpretation, please contact MOCAK’s Art Knowledge Department at 12 263 40 35 (Monday – Friday, 9 am – 4 pm). Admission to the event included in the price of the ticket to the Museum. Participation in the guided tour does not require prior reservation. Participants are requested to assemble in the Beta Gallery 10 minutes before the start of the tour.
