History can be broken down into images rather than stories

Can history be a picture? How can you tell your story without words? These – and many others – were the questions that the participants of the workshop History can be broken down into images rather than stories, run at MOCAK on 2 October 2011, set out to find answers for.

At the beginning of the meeting all those who attended were taken round the MOCAK Collection and exhibitions by Iwona Wojnarowicz. The experience of works was both an inspiration and provided reflection on how to construct a narrative using images. Next, the participants met Bartosz Kokosiński, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. The artist talked about the concept of image in his work and about what inspires him to create abstract art.

Sharing their ideas with the artists, the participants came up with titles for their own works, then transposed their stories into images. The MOCAK hallway became the space in which those taking part in the workshop presented their personal stories.
