‘Sculpt-couture’ is not only the title of one of the series of works by Halina Mrożek presented at the exhibition, but is also a perfect fit as a generic description of the artist’s works. With this Anglo-French label, Mrożek has coined a term which clearly refers to two fields: on the one hand sculpture, on the other fashion. Mrożek sculpts couture, and the reverse also applies: sewing becomes a process of sculpting. Photo sessions and the resultant images, the culmination of working together of photographers, stylists and producers all belong to the area of fashion.
Halina Mrożek (born 1984): graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, 2009. Her graduation work Sculpt-couture was awarded the Medal of the Academy of Fine Arts. First-prize winner of the International Fashion Competition Off Fashion in Kielce (2010), second-prize winner of the international Creative Graduate Prize (2009).
Her works have been presented at exhibitions, eg at as the Solvay Centre of Contemporary Art, Galeria Nowa or the Palace of the Arts in Kraków, as well as at art and fashion festivals and published in Polish and foreign magazines.
