Conservation
MOCAK has a unique conservation studio dedicated to contemporary art. The conservation of works in the Collection focuses on their protection and ensuring that they are both exhibited and stored in appropriate conditions. Primarily, however, we collect data about the techniques and style of the artists, their choice of materials and the media employed as well as the attitude of the artists themselves to the aging of their works and their deterioration. On the basis of the data gathered, we decide on the scope of acceptable conservator intervention. Faced with the variety of contemporary art – ranging from works employing a multitude of materials and innovative ways of combining them, from non-material forms, whether impermanent or with reduced durability, to ways of artistic expression which have no material basis at all – the conservation of contemporary art has today acquired quite a different significance.
