Economics in Art

The exhibition Economics in Art is part of a series of exhibitions presented by MOCAK that link art to the most significant concepts of civilisation such as history, sport, science, religion and art. The series aims to present the apparently unambiguous concepts through a variety of artistic interpretations. Another goal is to demonstrate how many creative inspirations and what great symbolic potential are concealed in the mundane.

At first glance, a confrontation of economics with art seems difficult. On the one hand, we have a cold, pragmatic discipline, based on calculation; on the other – a private sphere, entitled to unbridled imagination. It transpires, however, that economics contains many aspects that artists find teasing, provocative and inspirational. The texts for the catalogue have been written by: Georgina Adam, Edwin Bendyk, Willi Bongard, Łukasz Gorczyca, Jerzy Hausner, Monika Kozioł, Delfina Piekarska, Maria Anna Potocka and Linde Rohr-Bongard.
