In this painting, the representation of a realistic scene is a vehicle for analysing painting. A factory production line, where TV settings are checked; a row of monitors, each showing the same image; in front of each, a woman performing identical actions. The deep perspective of the image reproduces the elements of the scene in accordance with the painterly requirement to minimise and reduce detail. On the face of it, each object, image and activity are identical, but at the same time each has been changed by its position in the painting. Another, less obvious reflection is masked by the attempt to individualise each situation condemned to monotonous sameness.
