Just like our body language or facial expressions, our style of dressing is a coded language. It can be indicative of one’s function or status in society or gender. It is also possible to use the dressing style to deliberately project one’s intended image. Sawicka paints single items of clothing, usually formal in style. Without the context of their wearer or their shape, the clothes become no more than an abstract symbol, a costume that carries culturally coded messages.
